2022: 49 coaches at institutions in Whatcom County earned on average $49,767

Whatcom County’s 49 coaches earned an average salary of $49,767 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the fifth highest average salary per county earned by coaches at Washington post-secondary schools during 2022.

Whatcom County is home to three post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, Western Washington University stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $70,655.

Male coaches of men's teams received $34,192 on average in Whatcom County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $47,138.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
